Mobile Lice Removal & Treatment Hunterdon County, NJ

Lice Happens is a professional, private, and mobile lice removal and treatment clinic.  We serve families and individuals living in Hunterdon County in Western New Jersey by providing efficient and excellent treatments for the removal and eradication of head lice.

Has your child been sent home from school or daycare for having head lice?  For many parents this can cause a lot of stress.  We know that head lice never come at an opportune time and that this type of ordeal isn’t something that’s planned for.  Don’t panic, we’re here to help!

Our founders started Lice Happens over 7 years ago.  One of our founders was a registered nurse who worked in schools and had seen what parents had to go through to try to remedy head lice on their own.  Our other founder was a quality assurance professional who had dealt with head lice in her own family and had come to a similar conclusion as her counterpart.  These ladies saw a need for a service that treated head lice in a comfortable and safe way.  Our services are completely confidential and performed in the comfort of your home.  Our treatments are safe and natural.  We provide education to parents and caregivers so they can feel empowered with the knowledge and skills that are required to handle lice infestations in the future.

Many parents turn to over-the-counter remedies as a first step to ending their child’s lice outbreak.  However, we hear time and again how frustrating using these remedies can be.  Over-the-counter treatments are made with harsh and toxic chemicals.  Chemical pesticides are used as the main ingredients in these treatments and lice are adapting to them, becoming more resistant to these pesticides.  These treatments can also cause severe allergic reactions and most don’t recommend more than three treatments because of this.  However, sometimes parents will use these treatments multiple times and have no success at getting rid of the head lice.  One of the major reasons for this is because the lice are adapting, but another is because proper combing techniques do not come with over-the-counter treatments.

Proper combing practices are one of the most important steps to eradicating head lice once and for all.  When lice eggs (nits) are not fully removed from the host, they will continue to hatch, breed, and spread.  Most parents report the lice “returning” two or three weeks after they use an over-the-counter treatment.  This is due in large part to combing skills being inadequate.

All of our specialists are highly trained, skilled, and educated lice removal experts.  They have a lot of experience helping families just like yours.  When one of our specialists arrives at your home, he or she will be in a logo-free vehicle to ensure your privacy remains intact.

One of the first steps the specialist takes is properly screening every member of your family for head lice.  When treating young children, our specialists employ extra soothing methods to calm them during the entire process, starting with screenings.  While performing these manual and meticulous screenings, the specialist will show you how to screen for head lice too.  You’ll learn what to look for during a screening as well.  It can be easy to mistake dandruff, globs of hairspray, and dirt for nits and lice.  This skill is a useful one to have because we recommend regular screenings for young children.  Early detection makes stopping the spread of head lice much easier and faster.

Once each person suffering from an outbreak is identified, treatments will begin.  Every person who has head lice (and if one family member has it, it’s likely others do too) will be cared for by the specialist.  Our treatments are made from natural ingredients that are pesticide free and environmentally friendly.  They will not harm the skin and are free from side effects.  We use only non-toxic treatments for the eradication of head lice and will never use harmful chemicals on your family.

The specialist will use a fine toothed metal lice comb to remove nits, young lice (nymphs), and adult lice from the hair.  These combing techniques have been thoroughly practiced and used by our specialists and they are lice removal experts.  The specialist will coach you and teach you the proper way to use a lice comb as well.  This skill will allow you to perform follow up care in the days after the initial treatment and you should feel able to handle a lice infestation in the future should the need ever arise again.  When we are finished with our salon quality treatments, hair will be left feeling soft, shiny, smooth, and clean.

We teach parents the skills of screening and combing, which are invaluable.  We also teach families all about head lice and we work hard to dispel the myths that surround head lice.  Topics we cover include who gets head lice, what head lice are, how lice spread, treatment options, home care, hygiene, and many more.  We will take the time to answer all of your questions and concerns as well.  Perhaps one of the most important topics we discuss is the prevention of head lice in the future.  Though we hope you never have to deal with a head lice infestation in the future, you’ll have all of the tools, education, and know-how to confidently handle the problem on your own.  Hopefully this knowledge allows you to not feel stress and tackle to problem quickly.
